One of the reasons this relationship is so amazing is because I am learning to be fully present. Before being with Kyle I would be doing a million things at once all the time- watching a show, also playing music while scrolling and probably texting wondering why I wasn’t following the plot. We’ve kinda started a tradition of binging SVU together which at first I hated but now actually enjoy. Anyway, now when I watch I try to actually pay attention and not be on my phone for long or the laptop either, because this is a show he really enjoys and the fact that he’s sharing this with me means it’s important for me to pay attention. When we watch shows his attention span is much better than mine- he actually seems to get absorbed in the show if he’s into it and that’s really fucking cool, because I rarely get absorbed into any activity anymore. Tonight we also watched the first episode of one of my favorite shows Switched at Birth and I assumed he’d get bored and just sit through it to do something with me, but instead he actively paid attention to the plot, listened to my little ASL factoids (I can do some basic signing) and we enjoyed it together as a couple. If he can put the effort in so can I.
